Default ABS Code

I took my 1997 Mazda 626 LX V6 to a local repair shop because my ABS light was on. Their diagnostic was "ABS stored Code 53 Relay". They replaced the "ABS Motor Relay", but that did not fix the problem. The ABS light was coming on intermittently and now is on constantly.

What is Code 53?? Any ideas as to why the repair did not work??

Is there a web site that has all the error codes for my car??

This is not exact, but close: http://www.mpvclub.com/tsb.php?id=77
It refers to a '96 MPV. Check for bad ground on ABS pump.

Default RE: ABS Code

Code 53 means not only the relay but the motor as well and, in general, the motor should also be checked. However I do not now 100% trust ABS codes – I had a problem with my ABS several years ago and there was also some sort of the motor / relay code. But it turned out that both the relay & motor were OK and that my ABS electronic module was defective. Since I was unable to find out what was out of order in the electronic module I just replaced it as a whole.

Also, according to my experience if problems with ABS appear intermittently they are very often caused by ABS sensors. You may therefore wish to check all your sensors even if there are no any sensors-related codes.
