1990 626 back-up lights inop
I noticed that it was quite dark while backing up the other night, so I attempted to troubleshoot the backup lights.
With the stick-shift in reverse and the key turned on (without starting the engine) the white back-up lights do not light up. The bulbs look fine. I checked the bulb socket for power with a 12v tester; no power. I checked the fuse box under the dashboard and all fuses appear fine. I didn't see any marked "backup lights", per sae.
I have a hunch there's a micro switch that triggers the lights when the (stick) shift lever is placed in reverse. Does anyone know if this is the case? Also, any other ideas before I get too assertive with the tools?!
ps. The lights might not have worked for years.
Thanks, Finski

RE: 1990 626 back-up lights inop
Probably right on the switch bkey. Power is supplied thru the meter fuse and would have many more problems than that if fuse was blown. As a good way to double check, disconnect the connector for this reverse switch and jumper across the harness side. Make sure it is the reverse switch though and not neutral switch. Wires in the harness side connector for the reverse switch are Black w/ Yellow stripe and Red w/ Green stripe. Back-up lights should come on with connector jumpered and key on.
