1986 626 stalls after it heats up...wont restart...
Hi there.
I have a 1986 Mazda 626 with a 2.0L Fuel Injected (non-turbo) engine. The car starts quickly and easily, but as soon as it heats up (does not overheat), the car gurgles and stumbles and then stalls. It then will not restart until it cools off. I have already done everything within my knowledge. I have asked just about everyone in sight for advice, but to no avail. The car was running beautifully as recently as 3 weeks ago...but as I was driving home one day, I lost all power and had to pull over. The car stalled, and I had to wait until it cooled down just to make it the short distance home.
I have replaced the following parts: spark plugs, plug wires, cap & rotor, electronics module (if that is what it is called....it is the electronic part inside the distributor), coil, fuel pump, fuel filter. I am just plain and simply running out of things to try. Can any of you offer any advice? Based on the parts I have replaced and the results, it doesn't appear to be fuel or spark related...but I am no mechanic. It was suggested to me that it could be a clogged exhaust (catalytic converter). Like I said...I am not a mechanic by any means, but could that be an issue? If the vehicle will run when cold, why not when it heats up if that were infact the case?
Any suggestions and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
