new car smell is toxic...i leave my windows down in my car when parked in the garage and i leave the garage doors open to try to get rid of the smell...the smell i am talking about i get a whiff off once in a while after a longer drive and it smells a little like burnt tires...tried to locate a source under the hood and around the exterior but found nothing...i did not smell it after getting home yesterday...will monitor it going forward but not overly concerned as it's not too strong

 

That was an decades old MYTH about the new car smell. At least from about the 1980's. As I said there are strict regulation required to manufacture a vehcle now. And long time debunked in many reports and car magazines on the subject as well.. I think even MYTH Busters did a segment on their show once about it, but maybe that was flammable interior parts , to long ago don't remember? lol

If you are smelling something else I would highly recommend that you get that checked. It is not normal at least how you define the smell.

Its a study for a paper, did you only grab it because..... next time read the complete "study" see who did it by both names of people there credentials (students) as well as who sponsored them. Dude you know anyone can find some study that will in some way support most any subject in life you have a beliefs in. Are you going to start wearing a mask and gloves when you get gas? Are you going to stop using your cell phone? Are you going to stop drinking water that is bottled in plastic" See where I am going? Honestly as you said you drive around with the window down; do you realize what byproduct of tires is created that you breath or even that tarmac on a hot day . LOL I guessing far worse than any an interior vehcle has.
Look into tarmac and tires off gas and negative byproducts they create.

Cleary I said that if you clean your interior and windows up even 16 year old vehcle or older that smell will return. There fore that smell while your senses can no longer smell it and even having the windows down you are still going to ingest the air that is in the interior. You also might want to see how a HVAC system is made and how it works as well.


Better starts shopping for a bicycle and a different country to live in.
Oh I might add when and how frequently do you change your cabin filter? I do mine about every 30-45 day religiously. LOL But maybe that because i am human and fart burp etc. and have bad breath occasionally while driving and just the thought of not having good filtered air and all those smells ...... ROLMAO! i

Lets stay on track here because we know where this will go, lets just say and agree that new car smell in the interior some people don't like and may prefer that when they are gone to their nose smelling them they feel better about their vehicle.

 

i could keep posting links that support that new car smell is toxic (as there are many) but as i said it's pretty easy to google with the keywords i listed in my previous post...but i posted a helpful link below for anyone that needs it...whether or not people care, doesn't matter to me...i'm just trying to get rid of the smell by letting it vent off...as far as my habits over the years i have little by little been changing things around our house to promote healthier living...of course you can't prevent exposure to everything but that doesn't mean you can't limit exposure to some chemicals that are not healthy...cause i hear that cancer isn't all that fun...but i don't care what other people do as that's none of my business

Honestly when you do some of your own studies and testing let us all know other wise your information at best show you are good at surfing the NET!
Go re-read what I posted on the subject and consider how ridicules some of your responses may be at best unrealistic to do as any owner and driver of a vehcle operating in the USA and Canada, Germany, etc.!
Dude you totally disregarded what I posted you are only on a soap box crusade to attempt to be right but nothing you posted although scientifically may be correct is not practical in the real world nor is it included with the any of those test conducted. The one so far were done in a completely controlled test group and if you notice no auto manufacture was targeted. WONDER WHY?



BTW I am Vegan (off and on since 1984)100% now for the last 5 years but have been a vegetarian since 1982. Think about exactly what it takes to be both and especially VEGAN. I am also very conscience about my living environment, but I am also logical and also not fanatical about things we can change and influence in our lives especially regarding health. If you drive if you live near a road then there is really very little you can do to prevent its effects. If you live in any house and its not a sterilized bubble there is some things but in the BIG picture there is so little you can do to reduce the total effect of all the material used in its construction. Should I go on?

I do appreciate a member that looks into or in depth on a subject but you cant see and read that your inexperience or real world testing on any of the subject is distracting to help people that may actually have a problem that they may unaware and to try differ between what is and is not normal for a smell. Your own comment about burnt smell would have me as an Auto Tech looking more in detail about a possible underlaying protentional or existing problem! Or maybe advising to go see a Otolaryngologist.

Look at vehcle forums a haven for DIY and less then empirical or factual information. After some close to 700 responses I have tried to post information more or less fact based but there is always a few members that try really hard to discredit them. Who the " frick" would do a study on the benefits of a new car smell? ROLMAO
