2021 CX5 correct high capacity oil filter?
Just bought a new 2021 CX5 2.5 Skyactiv and I LOVE it. What is the correct high performance, high capacity oil filter please. I have a Mobil M1-101A but sources are saying the Mobil filters including the M1-108 are incorrect? Help. I bought a tiny little Mexican made Mazda filter that just doesn't look right? Help?

Not sure who these so called experts giving you this advise is. When in doubt go directly to the application guides of the manufacture ONLY of the Oil filter you would like to use. If you still are not trusting their own guide call their technical support.
I am not going to tell you what I found but their are aftermarket oil filter available. Because of the MAGNUSON-MOSS WARRANTY we have here in the United States unless an automaker say that your warranty will be void and that engine damage will occur unless you strictly use their oil filter you are covered. Besides there is nothing special with the MAZDA oil filter to begin with . LOL I mainly use them at this time on my 2.5 Skyactiv Engine because I purchased a case of 24 for 30 bucks. LOL other wise its FRAM, Mobil One or Amzoil.

Ya may find that both the M1-108 and the M1-108A can be used in their application guide.
Most oil filter NEVER come close to needing to be changed on the average engine recommended service guides. Don't get me wrong oil filters are cheap and I always change them at every oil change on everything I own that has one. Or clean the oil filters on my Race engines running OBERG oil filters. Over the years people in general seem to think that an oil filter is dirty at 3,5,10,20 or even as much as 30,000 miles in use for the normal average consumer with a daily driver. It really takes a lot of dirt partials for the oil filter to go into by-pass. This misconception about oil filters has led OIL FILTER manufactures offering several choices implying things that are not really data proven but we all think that a pretty looking oil filter must be better. Also the "BAD" rap some filters have gotten because armatures taking them apart and exploring the insides not even considering fluid Dynamic's and filtration of engine oil on the average Dailey driver? Sure there is always a product that will have some failures or quality control concerns. Or even in the case of a couple that had their filters illegally copied and distributed.
I generally will not use "generic" plain painted oil filters but will at times if a customer is really wanting to save money on a oil filter service. And I might point out in over a few decades NEVER had a generic Oil filter fail under proper installation and use.
Oh and for those that think they know-it-all about oil filters from YouTube videos I only say to you get a few oil analysist performed and "LEARN" the truth about oil and oil filters.
Also converting to a larger oil filter unless you are in a "HIGH" dust area (and then maybe?) of operation does nothing really except many times cost you more for that larger oil filter.

I have used many different oil viscosity and had the oil analyzed a few times. I choose oil viscosity for my operating conditions as it should be done. But when in not sure you can follow MAZDA.
Here is my threads. Lots of pictures...
