Default E Brake- Not working?

I JUST bought a 2002 Mazda Protege ES. It has 90000 miles on it and seems to be in pretty good shape. My dad was looking it over, and he noticed that the car rolled back a little in the driveway (its on a hill). So he tightened the emergency brake. While he was doing that, he noticed the E brake was only working on one wheel. He thinks that either the cables are too stretched out or too loose or somethings rusted and not moving right, but he doesn't have much experience with mazdas.
My older brother had a mazda about 6 years ago, and he said he had the same problem, but he never fixed his.

Does anyone have a clue what the problem could be?

Default RE: E Brake- Not working?

it sounds like you have a siezed cable. is it a hand or foot e brake, what you need to do is find the equalizer ( the point where the cable is seperated into two cable) apply the e brake and make sure both cables are moving if not the cable is seized, if both are working its in braking assembly and the wheel that is not working will have to be dissassembled and repaire the part in not working,
as for the cable stretchng, they don't stretch to the point that one will work and one wont, the cable will break before this will ever happen.
