Exclamation 94' B2300 - "Reving" while shifting gears!?

Hey guys/gals, I have recently purchased a 94' B2300 - standard - 5 speed. I'm new to this vehicle. I'm doing a tune up on it right now, to get it in better running condition. However.. My concern is: When I engage the clutch to shift gears (any gear), the motor revs high for about 2-3 seconds. I don't know if that's normal for this truck or what, but I've never heard that before. Any thoughts?

P.S. I am 100% certain my foot was not on the accelerator, while shifting

hi Olie:
I just bought one of those a few weeks ago. They are identical with the Ford Ranger 2.3. Therefore search the Ford forums as well.

First thing I would check is the accelerator cable. Disconnect it in the engine bay and move it by hand. Feel for friction, inspect it for rust. Put a bunch of lubricant in the housing. Move the cable in and out to distribute the lubricant.
2nd: Clean the throttle body with throttle body cleaner.

I hope you stumble on it doing this.

Thanks, Tanprotege.

I will definitely have to do that. It probably needs it anyway, even if it doesn't solve the problem. Today I am changing the starter, plugs&wires, Oil change, Air&fuel filter. After that I will begin the throttle cable, housing, and body cleaning process! I'll keep you posted. Thanks!

Most people find the plugs on the driver's side to be difficult to replace. You need long reach pliers, a wobble spark plug socket and a long extension. I also suggest to create a "shoe horn" to guide the spark plug wrench between the intake runners to the plugs #3 and #4. You could use a long, 2" wide piece of card board and fold it in a V.
The original plugs are platinum. I used Motorcraft platinum, but now I would use iridium plugs after learning this somewhere else:
Best spark, shortest life: copper
good spark, good life: iridium
weak spark, long life: platimum.

Yeah. Some of those plugs were hard to get to. I found that the third plug back on the drivers side was the most difficult. I'm draining the oil right now. Last part of the tune up. After that I'm going to work on the acceleration issue.

Oh yeah. BTW. Thanks for the plug info. I didn't know about the different kind of plugs and their ratings.
