I told my wife I'd give up riding while our son was young.
I took ten years off and she said you've gone long enough.
The KTM 390 Duke is a great bike, you'd be pleased with it. Though anything under 500cc really doesn't like to do highway riding.
This went into a Motorcycle thread really fast? LOL
Hmm IDK about that but then but then I never was into long trips and I think the longest on a bike was 5 hours? Nothing for me at one time beats Canyon ripping mountain roads dragging a knee occasionally . I am not really into heavier sport bikes and not cruisers either although I have owned several and even still own a semi modified cruiser I use to like to chase guys on their sportbike up to about 180 with it and then most back off. And if not I always can spray the engine for another 20mph+ if needed LOL To be fair the base engine was a 650.
that sounds like a fun bike...i think my 600rr was barely over 100hp at the rear wheel according to specs
This was actually HP and not advertised. I DYNO'd it . Also if you look at the dry weight which was 339lbs but after I installed my Jolley Moto's with Cans, solo seat the dry weight was 299. Think about that for a looooong minute. At 100+mph I could lift the front end up and carry almost a mile. LOL And yet when tootling around town and casual cruising on the highways it was as docile as a kitten, but if you got on the pipes (or rotary discs) if you were not ready would literally yank you hands and arms off the handle bars. No exaggeration. Mine was not the only built RG around in the world.
No one wanted to play with me on the street a few tried. So I stripped the factory paint of all the identifying model of what it was but repainted it exactly the Suzuki color and exact factory scheme . Then it was funny because guys would see the 4 pipes and tell me I would make power if I went with a 4 into 1 header. ROLMAO. If you know bikes then you get the joke that was on them?
Oh forgot to mention my CBR600 was a full Track bike I often raced under AMA at Sears Point (now Sonoma Raceway) and Laguan Sace Raceway. (branded as WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, and previously Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for sponsorship reasons)

Hahahahaha...yep it did.
My longest trip was about 3 weeks and covered around 20+ states on my Concours, taking "sabbath" between switching jobs.
Anything under a 500cc would've killed me. Barely survived a trip to Myrtle Beach and back on my Vulcan 800.
My quickest trip was solo run of 2600 miles in about 28 hours to Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia and back on the Busa.
Including stops for food/gas and two nights lodging, with a really nice lay-over at the Glenora Inn & Distillery.
It was fast in every sense of the word.
I'm actually looking at the new (2024) Triumph Speed 400 ($4995) and Kawasaki Z500 SE ($5495).
I've convinced myself my back can handle an hour a day ride to get my fix and keep from going insane.
Either that or my lack of riding for over three years or my old age has resulted in me being insane already.
I need to take the CX-5 for another spirited drive...
Not for me... I think my days of the type and style I use to ride are likely now going to be history. Every accident I have been in thus far in my life was always caused by the other driver The last one was caused by a guy driving a truck that for no reason pulled into the #! lane (otherwise called the fast lane) going about 45 in a 65MPG zone and I laid down the bike and went under his rear axle as he kept driving....wtf huh???? lol, when I was finally ejected out in the middle of the highway with oncoming traffic. Thankfully a drive saw this and pulled in front of everyone and stopped all the traffic. She was also a Nurse and felt compelled to transport me top the hospital. Aside from road rash on my arm completely ruining a leather jacket and the bike (19990 VFR750) only sustained cosmetic damage to the plastic covers because it slid off the road into ivy. Now this was not the end to the story... the police local and CHP in numerous cars as well 2 fire trucks were called to the scene, and they were all looking in the ivy for me thinking I was road hamburger and DOA. A police officer arrived at the hospital while I was being treated for the road rash and the police officer said that I left the scene of an accident, and he should cite me. LOL
Same with me, every time that I've been down, only once was it my fault, hit a large pothole.
We must have the same bad karma. After a crash in college, I was taken to the hospital, had a broken ankle and multiple foot bones. Technically our state requires immediate reporting of any accident with a death, personally injury or damage over $1000.
As you can imagine that was not a thought my head was entertaining at that particular time.
My friend did tell a local cop when he got picked for speeding while headed to the hospital to get me.
About 5 hours later I'm on the couch in my apartment zoned out on pain killers and drinking a beer.
Hear a knock on the door and one of my roommates opens it. Local cop sites me for leaving the scene and failure to report an accident.
Good karma won out though, when I hobbled into court three months later on my crutches.
The judge looked at the paperwork, then looked at me, then looked at the cop.
He shook his head in a confused manner and said, "seems obvious to me why he didn't report the accident immediately", case dismissed.
Not my favorite car but it was going to the crushers so I couldnt help myself.
People say what a great car they were. Well
Go well NO
Stop well NO
Steer well NO
Ride smooth OK.
