Default No brake or high stop lights working

Hi there, my car failed it’s warrant on no brake lights or high stop lights working. The park lights and the indicators work, and the lights come on when the headlights are on. I e checked the fuses and they seem to be fine.

so I’m thinking it’s the brake light switch, which I have located. My question is how do I get it out. From other instructions I’ve read they say a 1/4 turn but I tried it and it doesn’t budge. Maybe I need to turn it harder. Any ideas? It’s a Mazda Atenza 2003 Manual sports wagon. Picture of it is above

Did you turn it clockwise or anticlockwise?
