I have a 2005 Mazda 3 HB. Just had the 7500 mile service today. All in all a fairly decent car, but it's replacing a stroked out 89 BMW 325is and it's just not the same (not that I expected it would be). The Mazda and BMW weights are about the same, but the BMW had about 200 HP. Now I'm looking for what options may be out there to kick up the Mazda a bit. The biggest disappointment is that the torque is not very good in the 2000-3000 range, and since I have an automatic, I end up shifting down a lot.

Anyone done anything to this car that's not too expensive and won't present any smog problems in California?
