Engine trouble

Default Engine trouble

Hi I have a 2003 Mazda 6 with 2.3 liter 6 speed, have a bad running engine, code reader says cam position sensor( po340)but I’ve replaced it with three new ones and it runs worse with new ones than old one, noticed today very black puddles under exhaust, any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Welcome to the forum.

Replace the new part you just installed with the original part you thought was bad and start over.
Never replace parts without first confirming that they are in fact bad. DTC are a starting point of possible problems but those possible problems if there is a part like a sensor you must first check to confirm that it is in fact a failed part before assuming it so and changing it out with a new part.

P0340 Possible causes:

• CMP sensor malfunction

• Connector or terminal malfunction

• The CMP sensor is dirty

• Short to power circuit between CMP sensor terminal A and PCM terminal 2M

• Short to power circuit between CMP sensor terminal B and PCM terminal 2J

• Short to ground circuit between CMP sensor terminal A and PCM terminal 2M

• Short to ground circuit between CMP sensor terminal B and PCM terminal 2J

• Open circuit between CMP sensor terminal A and PCM terminal 2M

• Open circuit between CMP sensor terminal B and PCM terminal 2J

• CKP sensor pulse wheel malfunction

• Both CMP sensor wires are shorted to each other

• CKP sensor misinstallation

• Timing chain misinstallation

• Loose timing chain or improper valve timing due to chain jumping

• Loose camshaft sprocket lock bolt

• Loose crankshaft pulley lock bolt
