Default '89 B2600i temperature gauge

Hello, I recently picked up a 1989 Mazda B2600i 4x4 SE-5 and the only problem I'm running into, that I'd like to fix asap is the temperature gauge on the dash. As is, after warm up the gauge will move slightly but only to the very bottom (i.e. cold) line on the gauge.

So far I've replaced the coolant temperature sensor twice. Once with a new one

and once with the one from my parts truck, just to double check. All 3 (including the one that was installed when I bought the new to me mazda) behave the same way and leave the gauge not fully functioning.

I keep seeing references to a 2nd and possibly 3rd coolant/water temperature sensor/sender. But cannot find where they are located on the engine, to be able to check or replace them.

Someone on the other mazda forum site suggested checking that the coolant was fully topped off and if the thermostat was sticking open. I'll be checking those things when the truck gets back from the exhaust shop in a few days.

But I would still like to find out where this

sensor is or if my specific engine even has multiple temperature sensors.

Or if anyone has any other suggestions to check out to try to get the temperature gauge functioning. I'd really like to be able to keep an eye on my Temps.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Sithross,
Have you gotten your buddy back yet? If so, has the problem resolved itself? I’m curious to find out the rest of the journey. If your still having issues I’ve got some ideas I’d like to share that may be helpful.
