My 2008 Mazda 6 has been giving us problems. It kicks out of 5th gear. We have replaced the 5th gear synchronizer and shifter fork and it still has not fixed the problem. The only other options are it being the shifter cables or getting a new transmission which financially is not an option. Anyone else had this issue? I've read this is a quirk of this particular car. Any input would be great.

 

I had a similar issue with 3rd gear in my 2009 Mazda3; I switched the transmission fluid to ACDelco Synchromesh Friction Modified and that solved the issue. There was a side benefit of the new MTF in that the shifting into the other gears got a heck of a lot smoother.
