2003 Mazda 6i Bang on the Fuel Tank to Make it Start??
Had to replace the transmission on my Mazda 6 (it burned up trying to get it home through the snow). Somehow, the timing got thrown off, and it took my mechanic a whole week to figure out how to set the timing, as it appears you need the special tool to align the timing shafts plus tighten the right bolts and all that, and apparently my mechanic (who has never given me a problem in the past) took a whole week to figure out. Anyway, even after a new transmission and setting the timing, the car refused to start. Turns over just fine, but no fire. Someone suggested we bang on the gas tank from underneath the car (not kidding) and we did, and the car started just fine. I have never heard of this procedure, but it worked for me for a couple of days. Now, no matter how much I bang on the gas tank, it won't start. Cranks over just fine, no fault lights, no codes. Any suggestions? I'm getting pretty desperate here...
LOL! Same thing goes for the TV, Computer and vending machine! Beat the crap out of it!
Fuel pick-up unit is in fuel tank! There is electrical connectors as well.
one piece unit measures fuel and pumps it to engine.

Additionally, I did check to see if the fuel pump was even working...when I turn the key on, I can hear a faint low-frequency sound coming from the fuel tank area, so I assume that means the fuel pump is at least coming on.
being a 2003, Im guessing the mileage is getting high. Fuel pumps don't last forever. Its becoming a common problem with older higher mileage Mazda's 6's for the pumps to burn out.
How many kms/miles has your car done? Has the fuel filter ever been replaced?

and the $$$ keeps piling up, Fuel Pump not cheap!
Make sure you keep at least 1/4 tank of fuel in car at all times. The fuel acts like a cooling aid to the fuel pump! No fuel = no cooling = premature burnout, wear! In winter i like to keep it even higher to take the freezing condensation out of the equation!
Putting in fuel system cleaner once in a while is also a good thing for rest of fuel system including injectors.
