Default Road Noise

The only complaint I have about the 6 is the road noise. I have the stock Michelin Tires on. The tires are fine. What can I do to reduce the road noise? I know there is some stuff called Dynamat that I heard people use. Is that what I should use? I am a average mechanic, so I would like to know where I could install the dynamat. In wheel wells? I would appreciate the help.

31,000 miles and counting with no problems!

Yeah, dynamat would work, but it's gonna add a good bit of wieght to your car and would be a bit of over kill IMO. Have you tried adjusting your tire pressure? Tires that are improperly inflated can lead to increased road noise. Other than that I'd say go with a different kind of tire next time around.

Pump them up an extra 3-4 pounds than the recommanded pressure. When the time comes for a new set, read up on the surveys on www.tirerack.com. I find them very informative. But you might have to give up some handling for quietness. Good luck.

By the way, what is dynamat and how does it work?

dynamat is this super duty sound insulation material. You see guys with big-time stereo equipment installing it in their cars and such, but it adds a good bit of weight (not that those guys care at all about performance, if they did they wouldn't be installing 100+ lbs of stereo equipment in their cars). It's total overkill for this application IMHO.

Thanks for the info. I keep my tires at 31 psi on the fronts and 32 on the rears. The reccommended pressure is 30. So it isn't tire pressure. The road noise really is not that bad. But I was willing to spend $30 or so to make a improvement. So I could get some underbody spray and spray the wheel wells?
