has anyone kept their stock mufflers and removed the resonators? right now i dont have $500+ for an aftermarket exhaust and im not sure that im going to like how it sounds, and i dont want to be stuck with it. i was wondering if i could remove the stock resonator (s) and keep the stock mufflers. how do you think it would sound? maybe this is a stupid idea..if so please let me know your honest opinions..this is why im asking. the performance mods for this car are rather expensive. this is my first 6, and pretty much my first NEW car.i just want to do something simple for now. i heard a 6 with magnaflows but it was rather quiet. it still had the resonators on it. i wasnt all that impressed for a $500+ exhaust system.

Removing the resonator (there's only one) should increase the exhaust noise a bit. I don't know if anyone has actually done this to give a fair impression of how it sounds.
The bad part about this is that the resonator is welded into the exhaust pipe, so it would either require you to have the welding and cutting equipment required to remove and replace it with a piece of straight exhaust pipe or pay a muffler shop to do the work.
That would also make it almost impossible to easily replace the resonator in the system if you didn't like the sound without it.

All in all, it's a worthwhile experiment, it just requires a bit of work to accomplish.
