New bracket install - IPOD + Sat Nav
I kinda like my ipod so I wanted a way to listen to it in the car. I tried a couple of FM modulators but they really didnt cut it and chewed through batteries like they were going out of fashion so I decided for a more integrated option.
I wanted to keep things cheap but I really wanted to be able to utilize the steering wheel buttons for volume, track skip back and forwards and using the ilink (about $130) I was able to do this quite neatly. The ilink also handles playlists through the disc up and down buttons on the head unit too.
At first I let things dangle as it was a cheap solution, but one heavily scratched ipod and 3 or 4 near misses later I decided a bracket would be a better choice. I found a really nice solution specific to the mazda 6 but it was about 90 dollars so i continued to search. I then stumbled on a nice mazda specific solution from GBX ($39).
The added benefit of this mount was that it fits my magellen 700 quite nicely
Total cost of project 170 bucks.
Excuse the poor pics - camera phone.

that's a very cool modification! it's horrible that everything costs damn near an arm and a leg but your way definitely cut that price down tremendously. there was an ipod adapter that allowed for steering wheel controls to be used, but that ran alot of money. more than your project was worth. good job, it looks very nice and i bet you are happy with it!

Can you give a link as to where you got the iLink. I am too lazy to search for it.[8D] Right now, I am using the Monster Cable which just connects it through the adapter and i use w.e stations i want. But, I love the idea of using steering wheel controls, because your right, scratches and trying to drive while searching your ipod for songs aint cutting it.
