Default need help programming key for 2006 Mazda6

One of my 2 keyless remotes for my 2006 Mazda 6 was badly damaged and I've had to purchase both a replacement remote and key. I've been able to reprogram the remote using the 9 step process and now have the door locks and trunk working properly. I've been unable to reprogam the key itself so that the car will start. Does anyone know the process for this? I'd really appreciate it. Local dealerships are charging anywhere from $55 to $85 for this. Thanks.
