Mazda6 issues/questions
I have lurked on the forums for some time, but just joined since I have a quick question/comments.
I have had a Mazda6 since 2002. It is a 2003 model, but bought in late 2002. Loved the car until this summer. After this last winter I had rust in the rear wheel wells....I know England had a recall about this, but not the US. So today I sanded the rear wheel wells down, re-primed them, even used some bond and touched it up. Looks fairly good. As good as rust is going to get.
Also this summer I got some noise coming from the front. At first I thought it was the struts, so I replaced them, since the car has 91,000 miles. Everything was fixed, but the noise did not go away. Doho!
Thus, I believe now it is the steering column. When it was winter or the car is cold it does not make noise, but when it is warm outside the car makes noise whenever I move the steering column even the slightest in either direction. I believe it is this since lubricant viscosity changes with temperature.

Let me know your thoughts.
Thanks!

what kind of noise is it making? If it is kind of a creaking noise it may actually be the combination switch (lights, turn signal, etc.). I had to replace mine when the car was new for that--dealer replaced steering column, clockspring, etc until they finally figured it out.

Turns out there are several combination switches from RockAuto, do you know which one was replaced exactly? Thanks for all your help again!
I bought a 2004 Mazda 6i sedan, the first problem I had with it was every time i got out of the car, I would hear a pretty loud creaking noise... I wasn't sure if the car was trying to tell me to cut back on the donuts or if there was something wrong... when i started loosing power is when i took it into the dealership (a month after i bought it). It turned out to be the Exhaust manifold where it first attaches to the engine block. It was loose and every time i go out of the car the it would change the angle of the manifold and the engine block making the creaking noise. the Mechanic even pushed on the engine block and i could see it rock with the exhaust manifold... thankfully that was a warranty issue. The next creaking noise that i had was condensation or moisture in the steering column. my mechanic told me theres nothing i can do other than to let it dry out, but boy when it got went is was a pretty nasty noise....
here is my question... I bought this 2004 Mazda 6i sedan 2.3L 4-cyl. at 25k. i bought the extended warranty, it is now 125k, and i just paid it off... and so started the problems.
the biggest problem right now is poor idling. its now so bad that in ideal the tachometer bounces and go under 1 (10k RMP) if i let It idle, it will stall... and ill have a heck of a time trying to get it started again. not until i jam my foot on the gas pedal while trying to start will it finally start. I just replaced the battery so its not that. From Reading the posts on this site i think i have narrowed it down to 3 options.
1) replace the spark plugs and coils
2) replace the fuel filter and then if that doesn't work, fuel pump. (what a job thats going to be)
3) buy a new car.
if anyone has any thoughts please post here or email me, I need some guidance, I have very little knowledge
thanks
