Mazda 6 DPF Question

Mazda 6 DPF Question
Hi, I have a 2007 Mazda 6 2.0 TD wagon. I have been keeping a close eye on the car, in case the DPF plays up, and have been prepared to replace it with an emulator. However, I am actually wondering if my DPF has been removed or something like that. Here are my reasons:
1. for the last few months my wife has used the car as a run-about, driving it almost every day but only into town and back (<5km per day, 60km/h or under). The car has done maybe 4000kms in these conditions (we also do a weekly stretch of around 15 minutes, 5-10 minutes highway driving). The DPF light hasn't come on throughout this time.
2. The car is quite smelly when idling/not moving - smells of diesel exhaust (no smoke). There is also soot deposits around the tailpipe.
3. We bought the car used from a used car lot, and I recently discovered that a previous owner has blanked off the EGR, so I know they were not opposed to modding the car (no other apparent mods though).
4. When I do an oil change, I follow the procedure here for the various resets: https://chiptuning.com.au/procedure-...zr-cd-2007-09/ However, nothing ever happens when I try to perform a DPF reset.
I would like to know if there is any way to conclusively determine whether the car still has a DPF. I have looked under the car and can see the normal DPF/CAT housing, with no signs of tampering that I can see...I guess someone could have cut a hole in the top of the housing though.
Thanks

Its not that I'm worried, on the contrary I'm grateful that I haven't had to deal with DPF issues. Its just some weird symptoms going on that I'd like to understand about my car. Also, I'm considering a DPF emulator but don't want to waste my money if I don't need one.
