Low Oil Pressure , Possible Engine damage warning light help
Hi All, This is my first post - Jason from Australia.
My (MAZDA6 K 6 SPEED AUTO SEDAN DIESEL ATENZA 2013) Recently displayed the Red Warning "Low Oil Pressure, possible or engine damage, check fuel levels" as well as the orange "engine maintenance" which may or may not have been related as maintenance was probably due..
Anyway, as this message showed in my car, almost instantly i was unable to accelerate above 60 Kmph, and eventually minutes later the car completely lost acceleration and came to a stop and I needed to be towed home.
A week passed and i booked in the car for a service, i live about 10 minutes away and i slowly drove the car in with the warning still displayed as the car started. I told them basically that i was only wanting whatever the issue is to be fixed regarding to breaking down and the warnings... I haven't driven the car much at all for 2 years since the last service (maybe 2500km max in 2 years) so i only wanted what was causing this issue to be fixed, couldn't care less about the extras/maintenance involved in each service.
From the service video they provided me, all they mentioned is that they where aware of the "low oil pressure" light, and that the "oil pressure in the car was fine", thats it ?????
"Performed Diesel Engine Oil Data Reset" was on the invoice.
They found other issues that needed "urgent" replacement below that I'm assuming are unrelated to the issue of why the car is breaking down and can be ruled out, however did not inspect the issue that the car was in for besides just checking oil pressure and assuming all is ok? and perhaps just removed the warning light with the tool?
The unrelated issues i believe they did find are below that I got them to replace/fix..
1. Drive belts
$385.00
Inspection Notes: Drive belt is cracking and requires replacing
2.Air filter
$110.00
Inspection Notes: Engine Air Filter is dirty requires replacing
3.Throttle Body Induction Service
$185.00
Inspection Notes: Helps to remove carbon build up from throttle body housing and air intake to the
4.A/C Deodorise
$190.00
Inspection Notes: carry out antibacterial treatment to remove mould, mildew and odours from aircon
5.Fuel Injector Max Service
$299.00
Inspection Notes: Cleans the fuel injectors & the fuel injection system which help remove carbon d
6.Front LH and RH lower control arms
$1,300.00
Inspection Notes: Bushes split and requires replacing
The next morning after the service and above repairs, i drove out and the car felt like new and the warning light was no longer on the dash and i assumed whatever they had done, solved the problem.. ( i did notice a message show up saying "remove water from fuel something" )
A week passed and i went for a drive, the same low oil pressure check engine warning light appeared again with an engine maintenance light as it did 2 weeks ago before the service and again the car could not accelerate and now its just in my garage.
I emailed Mazda and this was the response below
"As per the service report if the light re-appeared we would have to do a combustion leak flow test procedure. It is a two-day repair so we would need to book you with a loan car. I have attached int invoice below for reference. When would suit to book in?"
And when replying with the price this was the response
"The price to carry out a combustion leak test is $1397, This the first step of the diagnostic procedure, this may or may not repair the issue, but we have to start with this and then re-assess."
I have so many questions..
If i only wanted what caused my car to break down fixed, why did they not do the Combustion leak test? why did they just check oil pressure and assume it was a message error when i BROKE DOWN.. and send me on my way and to come back for more if the same thing happened again.
I'm unsure if its related, i believe the car has already been recalled and "complete" fixed of whatever the recall issue was above.
I have attached the recall related to the car below and i am wondering if anyone thinks it could still be related to this recall issue. Even if they have claimed to of fixed it at no charge in the past 4 years?
And if so, how do i approach Mazda about the recall even though its been complete if my current Oil pressure/engine/breaking down issue is related to the issue of the recall?
Kind regards, will appreciate any help <3
Your dealer should know better with the vast history of issues with these SH diesel engines.
The combustion repair is really a band aid repair. IF it is successful in restoring oil pressure, sell it ASAP to prevent yourself from a large engine replacement bill.
Mazda took my car back in after above complaint to diagnose the issue at no cost, as they should've done this the first time
the damage/ diagnosis :
"We have removed the injectors and sump. The oil pick up is pretty blocked and one of the injectors not sealing properly and one cam shaft worn. My warranty guy is in the middle of sending a quote to Mazda and going to ask for some assistance on your behalf."
2 weeks later i have been told they will replace my engine under warranty. Very happy with mazda for this. I am lucky enough to have known someone who worked at the exact dealership with a known record of these warranties being common.
I guess the only downside is the new engine, is likely still this engine which will have the same issues if not driven enough or in 100000-140000km time... Maybe i can now sell for abit more then its worth at least
