Default Loose / rattling radiator fan shroud and damaged undertray

Hi all,

Whilst under the car (Mk2 Mazda 6 2.0 D Sport) doing an oil change I noticed a couple of things were broken:

1. The radiator fan shroud that sits against the back of the radiator is loose; it moves around 5mm away from the radiator as the bottom locating pins aren't tight in their holes (looks like there should be grommets there, but there aren't any). It isn't in danger of falling off, just annoying, as it sometimes makes a rattling noise at idle. Are there any tips for keeping it held against the radiator when this happens? One idea I had was to use clips like the ones used to clip air cleaner housing lids on, under the bottom of the radiator, but if there is a better way, please let me know.

2. The large engine undertray securing bolts have ripped through the plastic along both sides, leaving the recessed round plastic pieces torn away and trapped between the washers and the car - rather than buying a new undertray, which would probably have to be a used one anyway, could longer bolts of the same pitch and diameter and large penny washers be used as a workaround to hold the tray outside of the bolt hole recesses?

Any suggestions for fixes would be much appreciated.

Thanks, John

Most newer Mazda do not solid mount radiators as well most other platforms no longer solid mount radiator. So, I suggest you go to a MAZDA part OEM guide and see if your specific Mazda has replacement bushing or not.
