Default Lights on Shifter... should they light up?

Hey guys, I have a 2005 Mazda6 S hatchback with the 6-speed AT... my question is:

When I have the headlights on should the gear indicators on the center console by the shifter **** light up?

Thanks

I have an '05 6s hatch as well, and yes, they should light up. If they aren't it's probably something simple like a bunrt out bulb, so check that suff before you go worrying about it being something major like bad wiring.

I have an 04 6S and mine also sometimes doesn't go on and just a tap on the panel will light them up again

The dealer loaned me 2 different "08 6i VE's once when my car was in for service. They both lite up but I"ll be damnned if it made any difference.
That auto-stick gate just takes getting used to.
