If it's a used '04 or '05, there is a known PCV valve issue.

dont get the v6, it is made by ford and is a pretty unreliable powertrain. Go for the 2.3l it is a much more reliable engine and most importantly 100%japanese.

Of course if the reason you want a manual is for some sporty fun, maybe push the suspension to it's limits every so often, then getting the 4cyl in a car that size is like trying to power a train with a lawn mower engine. The V6 is partly Ford made, a gas guzzling beast, and more unreliable at higher millage than most other engines, but it's certainly got more *****; if that's what you're lookin for.

I would have to disagree with this statement. I have an 05' with the V6 & it has been nothing but reliable. What are you basing your judgement on?

I would say a pre-conceived notion that Japanese products are better than American. That May have beentrue in the past, but not so now. (In fact....Ford gets much higher independent quality ratings than does Mazda.) I currently have (2) vehicles with the 24V 3.0L V6, 70,000 miles on my wife's 6 and 112,000 on my Taurus, both trouble-free and still run like new. The Fusion/Milan/MKZ all also use the same powertrain combos and are noted for being very high-quality, reliable vehicles.
