Farewell - the end of a sorry tale
I posted a while ago about my dead 2.3L engine.
Well - after 5 weeks of mucking about I finally took the painful decision to cut my losses and spend the £4500 on a new car instead of trying to revive the Mazda 6. First of all the replacement second hand engine was in a delivery van that was involved in an accident so the van, with my engine inside it, was impounded by the police. Then the insurance company had it. After about 4 weeks the engine finally arrived but when it was fitted it was found to be faulty so back to square one. Eventually a second second-hand engine was found but this was found to have a big chunk missing (not sure what - but something to do with where the dip-stick goes - with my track record I wouldn't have needed that anyway!!!). So, 5 weeks on and there was no end in sight and my garage was starting to get very fed up as well. Having no guarantee that the second engine was going to be a good one I went in and offered to give them the car - they can sort it at their leisure and eventually recover their losses on ramp time and dud engines - I can spend the money on a good deal from their sales department.
Very sad to see the old Mazda 6 Sport go but I've gone for a Ford Mondeo Zetec S 2.0 TDCi. Similar spec and performance to the Mazda but probably cheaper to run (certainly much better mpg) - a bit boring and loads of them about but it'll do. Neither the Mazda 6 Sport nor the Ford Mondeo are anywhere near as fast or fun to drive as my old MG ZS 180 but never mind.
Anyway - bye all. I've not been a big poster here but have watched and posted occasionally for 3 years. Thanks for your input.
