Default Engine Click?

So I did an airbox mod to my car, but even before we did the mod, I notice something. Some kind of intermittant clicking noise in my engine. I originally thought it was one of the radiator fans but came to find out that it's somewhere under the plastic hood of my engine. It's pretty loud, and the odd thing is it isn't constant, it clicks a lot sometimes stops clicks a few more times then stops again then starts up. I can't pin point the problem. Has anyone else had this issue? It sounds plasticy in nature so I'm thinking it's a loose something tapping on a hard something else. Let me know.

Tensioner recall? I just checked the recall website and I dont' see anything on that. I have an 05' 6s V6. I just got my alternator replaced cause it had a faulty one in it. Do you think the tensioner is something I could fix myself? I am pretty car savvy.

You probably could play with it for a while and if not it should be under warranty so fixing it would be free.

Well I kind of hate having mazda touch anything on my car. However, i didn't have too bad of an experience when they changed out my alternator, what I'm concerned about is if they'll notice that I removed all the stuff from the airbox and void my warrenty. I can put it all back in but it's a pain to do that just to get a stupid rattle fixed, when I'm sure the answer is it was a loose piece of plastic that for some reason we decided to put on top of the engine so it's a bigger pain in the *** to get to it. PS: Not a fan of engine covers. Retarded obstructing pieces of plastic. WHY HAVE IT THERE?!?!

does it do it on idle? if so idle it and stare at your bay, if not have a friend take it through the RPM range slowly. and observe. Then play around with the pullys a bit. I've hear squaking pullies but not clicking so it could be several things.

The belt tensioner is only a problem on 2.3 L not on the V6.

P.S. If I recall, the air box mod does not void the warranty. You can even get a cold air intake and be fine.
