So we've all had the posts about how long the tires last, but has anyone observed how long your brakepads last? Obviously the front are going to last way longer than the rears but how long is average?

i hope u know. the rears will last WAY longer than the front.
yea the rears are way smaller.. but 70%+ of the braking force is on the front

to ur original question. im seeing most people get around 30k miles.
i only have 3000 so i wont know for sure.
but since i do ALL city driving. ill probably get less than that. it all depends.

 

My 2005 wagon has 43,000 miles with the original pads. The brake boy said they have about 60% left.
Drive smooth, downshift, and work the traffic lights! Or don't!!

 

There are lots of factors that go in to how long your pads will last: driving style, pad composition, auto/manual trans, commute area (city, rural), how much/often you carry payload, etc. The average (if you can call it that) would be prolly about 35-40K miles. The stock ones in the Mustang I had (Rest In Peace) I changed at 30K miles to Ceramic pads and Drilled/Slotted rotors, and they had 20-25% pad left, and I drove HARD, but I always trans/engine brake too. Automatics will typically last 10-15% less I think (guesstimation). And typically you'll go through two sets of front pads to one set of rears.

 

I hope I get more then 30,000 on mine. That would suck. At 21,000 I am just starting to notice a difference in the smoothness and braking power. My brake pads went at 32,000 on my B-3000. But that was my first vehicle I drove. I was pretty dissapointed in that. But I think if we all be careful with our driving we can get 45,000 miles or so. If you drive the car hard you will only wear down the engine, tranny, tires and brakes. So it will be costly to do some racing. I wish I could remember that when I pull up to corvettes and such. Does anyone else try and race other people even though you know you will get your *** beat. I had fun with a Porshe once. He was a ***** in the turns. I kept up with him in the turns. It was fun. I know he would kick my ***, but it was fun. I can't resist the temptation to race. I have a disease!

 

My '04 Mazda6 S wagon has 33500 miles on it, and still the original pads. At the dealership for the 30k servicing, the rear pads were still in the top 1/3 of their life, while the front pads were in the middle 1/3 of their life. I consider this perfectly acceptable wear. The pads certainly look to be easily changed bydo-it-yourselfers such as most of us. Hell, the only reasonI let the dealerdo the service was because I wanted the automatic transmission fluid flushed and refilled. Cheers,

hey guys,
i just got my '05 6sport back from the dealership for its 35k mile service and the brakes & tires are fine!!! my tires should last another 15k and the brakes are @ 65%!!! not too bad. i'm not really hard on my car but i ain't no nancy driver either! i drive in L.A. so its a mix but i do use my A/T's "manumatic" to downshift so that probably helps....

I got 40k out of my original tires. I changed my front pads and rotors at 45k becuase of a vibration when braking, they werent really that low. I installed rotora drilled and slotted rotors and Hawk pads. I replaced my rear pads at about 55k and they were at about 10% left.

It all depends on your style of braking and vehicle manufactor, which brakes are gonna wear first. lost of the cars that I work on the rear brakes actually wear first.
