I just ordered Mazda OEM remote start kit 0000-8F-H21A

for my girlfriend's 2011 6 with a 2.5.

Anyone know of a good writeup on the install?

I've done keyless systems on mid 90's vehicles but never messed with anything with a transponder key.

Any pitfalls?

If anyone is looking at adding remote start, this kit was $72 with free shipping on Amazon. Looks like it is close to plug and play. Will have about 7-8 wires that have to be tapped into the wiring plugs under the left panel down by the drivers foot.

 

Price jumped up to $175 on Amazon. Glad I got it when I did!

Install was pretty straight-forward. Took me about 3 hours, including a half hour of trying to figure out the hood switch issue. GF"s car was a base so needed a hood switch and wiring harness which wasn't included in the kit.

I simply tied the two hood switch wires together from the remote start wiring harness, effectively bypassing the hood switch circuit.

Works great! Given the ice and temps in the 20's we have now she was pretty excited about it!
