so your problem still isnt solved? the dealer said they replaced the purge valve and still ticks huh? i notice mine alot now. i guess before i never listened for it. now i always hear it, but only once the car is up to temp for a while. i duno. i did an oil change last night and its still there. not that that would have anything to do with it...maybe it would i dont know, but yeah its still ticking away...this tick cant be in the engine tho, becasue it doesnt fallow the RPM's. it stays the same untill around 1500-1600 then it goes away. its gota be something on the outside of the engine.

ORIGINAL: clockmaker27

a valve was replaced or actually it was the bracket that holds it to the fire wall of the car. Purge Valve? Still has the annoying tick tick tick.. So now I'm going into the 3rd week of his problem.
According to various posts that I'v read, there may an issue with the PCV valve on the V6 models. A broken PCV often - if not always - results in excessive oil consumption and if left unchecked could lead up to engine failure (that ticking sound might be sign of trouble). Have you noticed any blue eshaustsmoke which would indicate thatoil is being burned? Keep an eye on your oil level. As of yet, I don't know a fix to this potential problem as there isn't (AFAIK) a better quality replacemnt PCV hose that would fit. Again, I have not experienced this issue first-hand but I'll bee keeping an eye on my oil just to be sure.

UPDATE! I found the problem! ME! NOT the ASE "CERTIFIED" mechanic. Although he was close, he was WRONG! it wasn't the purge valve mount at all, it is the purge valve itself! How I came to this conclusion.. Woke up this morning started the car and had someone hold the RPMs at 1000. Took a metal rod held it to my ear and touched the other end to parts of the engine.. Kept mental notes of the noises I was hearing. Drove around the block Ticking started up again. Parked the car had a friend hold it at 1000 RPM and listened to parts of the engine again with the metal rod. BINGO! Purge valve was ticking away. let the car cool off no ticking inside the car. listened to purge valve and it was quiet. Drove around block again ticking came back listened to purge valve and it was ticking again. PURGE VALVE!

well I found out that it's a dealer item.....should be covered by warranty for 60 or 80thousand milesI THINK since it's part of the emissions control. OK location. easy to find. pop the hood and look on the passenger side to the RIGHT of the strut tower then back against the fire wall. should have vaccume hosesattatched to BOTH ends and a plug with two wires coming out the side. get someone to work the gas pedal while you listen. You'll need something like a LOOOONG screw driver or a metal rod (something that can reach the purge valve and your ear) when you first start up the car make sure it isnt ticking, get someone to hold the RPMs steady then go listen to the purge valve. IT SHOULD BE QUIET. drive around for a bit to get the car to start ticking. Have someone hold the RPMs steady where the tick can be heard, then go listen to the purge valve again. let me know what you hear!
