My 2004 M6 wagon has started to experience some transmission problems - it's well maintained and except for 10k miles as a demoat thedealership, is one owner. The car currently has about 125k miles on it, is mostly highway driven - and has been a great and reliable car. In the past week in normal driving conditions (not feathering acceleration, or mashing on the accelerator) it seems to 'hunt' for the gear it's trying to move too. This creates a bit of a shudder,eventually it finds the gear, shiftsand I have smooth driving after that.
It doesn't sound like the "shift-shock" I've read on this forum as that seems to happenin the lower gears and lurches into gear, and I haven't noticed my car 'lurching', once it finds the gear it simply shifts. It seems it happensmostly moving from a middle gear to a high gear and frequently around 50-55 mph (turnpike driving). If I have to slow for the toll pass, it will do this going back to the high gear - but it will also do it periodically driving in town, but I've never noticed it in the lower gears, only middle and up. I've checked the ATF and it is clean and full - this is checked monthly with the other fluids and has been since purchasing the car. I've had the car in for updates, most recent about 4 mos ago. Routine oil change was serviced 2 weeks ago, just prior to any problems - I don't think they are related. Any advice?

 

We took the car into the Mazda dealer - isn't the tranny at all - it's the ignition coil, #5 was bad - replaced coil & new spark plugs -$700.
