Default 2004 6s Tranny Problems

I've seen the bulletin for 1-2 shift shock. I have a problem from 2-3. I had the reprogramming done mentioned in the bulletin, which did not help. That was last summer. The problem was sporadic and usually went away once the car warmed up. I just repleaced my battery and now it does it EVERY time the tranny shifts from 2-3. I have dealt with the problem since about 60,000 miles. It never happened before that. Sporadic until replacing the battery now at 104,000 miles. Since it is doing it now after replacing the battery, I am guessing is has something to do with programming? It's something like $80 - 100 to have the programming redone to the specs of the 1-2 shift shock service bulletin and still never corrected the problem that I have. Anyone else have problems with hard, delayed shifting from 2nd to 3rd? The problem is basically when it's ready to shift to 3rd, it seems like it comes out of 2nd, the RPM's go up another 1000 to 1500, from 2,000 to 3,000 or 3,500 and then it "slams" into 3rd. To keep it from happening, every time I feel it rev up when it's getting ready to shift, I totally let off the accelerator to keep it from "slamming" into 3rd. PITA! Suggestions?

Have you checked your fluid level in the trans? When was the last time it was changed?

Trade the car in.. Too many tranny problems on here and it's a sign that your might be going. Wish I had traded my Mazda 6i in. Now i'm left with a blown engine.

I changed my tranny fluid about 10,000 miles ago. The level is fine and smells and looks ok.

My 03 mazda 6s with the 5spd ATX has a similar problem as yours. Whenever it is cold it shifts erratically from 2nd to 3rd. It only does this for maybe a minute or two when it is cold. The mechanics at the dealership act like I dont know what I am talking about because of the 1st to 2nd TSB. I get things like"are you sure", "dont you mean from 1st to 2nd". Since it only happens when cold and then only briefly it is impossible to replicate for the dealership. You are the first mazda6 owner I have run into with the same problem. Keep me updated on your progress, if I get a fix I will let you know.

You said you have over 100,000 miles on your 6. How has the reliability been overall. I am at 51,000 and beside the recalls have had no other repairs.
