while the other one is placed on the trunk

I just answered the question in the other thread, his Mazda6 is Canadian spec, yours is American.

 

I could be completely wrong....but isn't the light on the trunk itself a feature of the 5 door? I could be wrong...I have no idea!! Just trying to throw something else out there!

 

I live in Canada, but I like the US spec. brake light that is integrated into the spoiler.
Just wonder where do they put the center brake light on cars without spoilers?

 

I (guess it's cause I own a 7) can't tell the diff between those two otherwise. In the other thread the latter mazda6(grey one) owner said he has the 5 door and not the 4 door sport like the white Mazda6 owner. I don't see a difference and the grey car looks to have a traditional trunklid rather than a 5th door (hatchback).

 

I wish mine was integrated into the spoiler...I like the look of it much better! I'm going to the dealership tomorrow to get an oil change...if I remember I'll check it out with them.

 

I believe it goes at the bottom of the rear window if the car is not equipped with either the wing type spoiler or the lip type.

 

You can tell the 2nd one is a 5-door by the presence of the rear windshield wiper.

It is done this way so that you only have to tool up 1 sheetmetal decklid (with the 3rd brake light incorporated) as the 5-door is available with or without the spoiler.
