"Driver-side key cylinder open/close function for front windows"
ORIGINAL: Island_6
I just went out and played with my '06... If you press and hold the unlock, the front windows will go down. The key fob will not allow you raise them back up (kinda dumb)... However, if you put your key in the drivers door, lock the car, and hold the key to the right (towards the trunk) your windows will go up. Noahbody....I would suggest putting your windows down and trying to get them up to help determine the problem.

Mine does. When the doors are locked hold 'unlock' for a second or two, release and the windows come all the way down. When the doors are unlocked and windows down, press 'lock' and hold it (but don't let go) and the doors lock and windows go all the way up - if you let go too soon the windows stop at the point they've reached.
My Mazda 6 is a late 05 2.3 Sport.
jonjc....you are in the UK? you probably have the european 6. The NA 6 will not allow you to do it...i've tried with no luck. the only way to get them to go back up is by turning the key in the lock.
I did wonder if my being in the UK might be relevant. Amazing really to find such tiny differences in cars that are essentially the same car.
This works.......
But....
I, for the life of me, can not find a practical reason to use this feature.
If I'm locked out of the car, can't use it need the key.
If I'm going to the mall, can't use it, passerby's can steal my Sh%#t
If I want to look cool and get out of my car with the Bose pumpin'
and walk up to a crowd then put the windows down to impress the ladies.
Can't, keys are in ignition with buttons.
What is the purpose of the "feature"
P.S. not trying to be an ***, it just happens.

I agree with you: unlocking andopening the windows while you are walking to the car is pointless. May be just to let the heat outon a hot day. I tried it a couple of times just to impress my kids. An useful and logical feature would be closing all windows automatically when you lock the car.
jonjc, i think the auotup feature (by holding the lock button) is only avail in the UK
due to liability issues in the US < we like to use our lawyers over here
and the autoup feature (via sticking key into door ) would be so much better. if it rolled up the REAR WINDOWS too [:@] lol
