My current fronts are Falken FK452s at 36psi. They are coming to end of life and I would say they are just OK for the money. I found that they lost traction (accelerating from standstill) more often than other tyres I have tried (Bridgestone RE050, Conti SportContact2, standard Dunlops), and no, I don't think I am particularly aggressive at the lights

I have ordered the Hankook K110 (£87.40 +Del) and shall see if the extra money makes any difference compared to the FK452s. My alternative would have been the Uniroyal Rainsport2 (£88.80 +del). I have not heard a Mazda5 owner talk about either of these yet.
These cars are generally quite easy to wheelspin - especially in the damp

Thumbs down Tyre Wear on UK Mazda5

Mazda 5 2.0D Sport Nav

MOT due and yes you've guessed it yet another set of rear tyres required.

Mazda customer service is very poor....lots of excuses with no ‘actual’ long term solution. This is a design/manufacturing fault that they simply won’t admit and can't afford to recall and repair.

We won't be buying another Mazda....they had their chance to impress and blew it.

Their official website is also full of falsehoods and pretences relating to warranties and 'great' customer service.

Certainly won't be recommending their cars to anyone.

Zoom...zooming over to Audi.

You say another set of rears but this looks likeyour first post - what mileage have you got from them and have they been rotated from the front as I thought the wear problem was with fronts?

Dont get me wrong the rear suspension isnt the best as its basically off a Focus II on my 07 plate(worth knowing as you dont have to buy main dealer parts)so doesnt handle heavy loads very well and mazda (Ford) shockers do have a short life (replaced ine with KYB).

Is anyone still getting the front inside tyre wear problem? This thread seems to have gone quiet on this issue. I guess people have either found a solution or given-up.

Default inner Tyre Wear

Hi,

I have not experienced any further problems. Tyre wear has been fairly even after a 4 wheel alignment at about 6300mls. Car has now done about 55000mls. Last front/rear sets did about 22000/28000 with some rotation front to back.

Sorry to hear it sounds like you still have not got yours sorted to anything acceptable.

Whilst I haven't had my head in the tyre direction for a while, the optiflex that Mazda did last year seems to have helped. Though I think the general design of the tyre they forced me into using may be a mask. I will reserve judgement until the Barum Bravuris 2 tyres are gone. They are very poor BTW, more noise and less grip than the Falkens they replaced. Dearer too.

Current issue is rear springs. Bloody lowering kit is cheaper! Tempted to do the shocks whilst there, but only failed the MOT on the spring.

Springs should only be about £35 a piece and the whole rear suspension is the same as a Focus 2. The shock and springs are seperate anyway but the Ford ones that are likely fitted are crap anyway. I fitted KYB's to mine over a year ago and they are a vaste improvement.
If you do the shocks make sure you get the top nut tight before reinstallation. it was the the dogbones that had also gone on mine again i got non Mazda ones for under half the price.

Hullo ggsumo, what model of KYB did you fit, and would adjustable be beneficial coupled with a 4 wheel alignment?

KYB – Shock Absorbers

Thanks

£35!! I wished, couldn't find any anywhere for that.
Did the springs only, then a month later the shock started leaking. Whole lot cost me about £200, and I fitted them.
I suppose if you know the ford part No, and it is equivalent then it might be cheaper to order ford parts, but a Mazda listing of the items is not cheap in my book.

Default Report on Alignment (or Geom-check)

Report on Alignment (or Geom-check)
my car: 2009 2.0D Sport

I got a four wheel alignment (clcm eh11 for just 50quid, pistonheads' Lotus trackday boys, etc recc'd him). Wullie had really nice 3D camera setups on his new kit. I THINK this is what some of you are calling a full geometry check (I had 21 different primary or secondary angle measurements done - is there more?)

As noted in other posts from Ianso and Rhodri, camber not adj anywhere. There was some before / after camber change due to toe in correction. Rear has LH-1o49' but RH-2o04' - Wullie claimed this was factory sloppyness (said he see's new cars with mis-settings all the time). He did NOT think my new shocks (replaced foc after 2 years) caused this (new shocks would not need re-alignment acc. him). Replacing or shifiting a sping is only way to correct this.

Coney - when you did your sping(s), was there any way of altering the rear camber? Has your front tyre wear been improved by new suspension bits at the back?

Toe in. Wullie noted that REAR toe in will (suprisingly to me at least) have a big influence on the severe FRONT tyre inside edge wear. As you all know, Mazda tolerances are huge. I am now running rear total toe at 28o, before this was like 5o (was actually LH+06' RH-o1' - asymmetric again due to orig sloppyness (allegedly).
Front total toe is now +10'.

Thinking about the

other stuff

in a summary post #776, ChW said "You cannot fit 15/16” alloys to car due to big brakes". I THINK ChW is talking about the pre-facelift S sport (with the rear tyre wear not font like on mine and most of those people here).

But, I ordered 15 in rims for winter tyres for my 09 plate 5 sport and these did NOT fit. Does anyone know if the 16 in will fit???

Mark
