Tyre wear on UK Mazda5
However, I think that 15000 would be right if your dealer 'rotated' the wheels at the mileage they're recommending. Did your tyres get rotated? My dealer asked '...had I not received the letter about my tyres...' , I said 'NO!', but he didn't offer to enlighten me, but I was bitching at the time about the wear on the original front tyres and the rusty grooved rear discs too at the time. I my opinion they do this to hide the wear and get twice the mileage out of 1 set of tyres, as I see no unusual wear from my 2008 rears.
The new tyres are wearing well, though their grip is '****e' under my normal loading ( I pull off quickly ) in fact there is no scuffing on the front inner edge ,as of yet, with the Dunlop Sport Maxx TT tyres, they are at a slightly higher pressure too. They must be a harder compound than the Dunlop 2050.

OK, just got back from the dealers. They put it on the lift and had a look.
They said that the average life of a tyre on a 2.0D Mazda 5 is somewhere between 12,000 and 20,000 miles. They said that the wear on the inner edge was nothing to worry about !?.. They said that I had 4mm left on the nsf and 5mm left on the osf and that by the time the inner and outer edge had worn to a dangerous level, the tyres themselves would be worn out. He guessed I had another 4-6000 miles left.
I asked again if he thought there was any danger with the inner edges wearing so bad, but he said no.....!?..
We will see.

sog1969, I'd be extremely careful! Unbeknown to me, my front tyres had severe wear on the inside even though there was 6mm+ left on rest of tyres, and one blew just after I'd come off the M6 because the tyre had come right away from the inner rim the wear had got so bad! The RAC man was of the opinion I'd had a very lucky escape.
Today I got a reply from the SMMT. Still no reply though off Mazda from my second letter of complaint about the front tyre wear. I will try to attach letter but so far it takes too much file space so far. If necessary I will just retype it by hand. I say again to you all here with the issue of the excessive front inner edge tyre wear that you send a letter of complaint to Mazda and copy it to the SMMT (those that have new cars (still in warranty), not second hand). These are the only people that put enough pressure on the manufacturer about dangerous and absolutely potentially fatal condition of there vehicle. Mazda have 10 days.
We will see if their rhetoric from the other day that the link was posted too is, or isn't 'bull'.
You see now; Mazda have to satisfy me and the SMMT not just give some flippant unfounded bull excuse about your tyre wear, Blaming it on under-inflation, over-inflation, heavy cornering, harsh braking, Dunlop tyres, toe-in, and toe-out. We have seen no evidence at all about the above excuses. Only evidence for incorrect CAMBER (too negative).

As well as the wheel size we need to clear up whether it is the 'cured' (claimed by Mazda) rear tyre wear or the newer front tyre inner edge wear (not yet, apparently, recognised or known to Mazda). Which I believe is only (mostly) the UK Sport versions with the 17" wheels (petrol and diesel).
Just thought I'd drop by and provide an update on my tyre wear.
Now done just over 22,000 miles with no tyre rotation.
At about 18,000 miles saw slight innner edge wear on the OSF all other tyres even wear, checked tyre pressures and found both front tyres slightly low with OSF lower, put them both to 1 - 2 psi over the standard. No further exess wear has been evident. Still have full width tread.
Rear tyre wear is still very low, and still look good for 60,000 miles.
The fronts should give me more than 30,000 miles easily looking at the present wear, if that is the case then that is as good as my last car which needed all four ever 40,000 miles.
As NickC said it looks like it can be put right on the Facelift model, however not all 08 plated Mazda 5's on the road are the Facelift model, I have seen a number of pre Facelift 5's with 08 plates.
