Tyre wear on UK Mazda5
Hi guys,
I had to be persistent, but never had to resort to any kind of agressive threat making with my dealer.
I think they realised that if they wanted to keep my custom, they would need to be helpful.
And helpful they have been.
I have just looked at my tyres and after over 4000 miles there is no obvious signs of uneven wear.
They seem to have sorted my car at least!

Update from me guys, and GREAT NEWS.
The heap of rubbish loosely termed a car that the Mazda5 is, is no more.
Traded in for a shocking £10k, a depreciation of nearly 50% in 18 months.
I can honestly say that this is the worst car I have ever owned (and bearing in mind I used to change my cars every 3 months, that is a lot).
I finally got sicking of lying customer services and uncaring incompetant dealers.
At the point of trade-in, and around 10 returns to the dealers the car still hasd the following problems:
screeching lock to lock
front tyre wear
noisy sliding doors
sticking reverse gear shift
steering vibration under breaking
pinking noise under acceleration
But none of these I need worry about anymore. Needless to say I will never buy a Mazda again, I will never go near a Mazda showroom again and I will tell everyone I come across to do the same.
Well done Mazda, you carry on spending your millions on advertising, but you need to start to understand that 1 dissatisfied customer is far has a far more damaging effect.
Anyway, onwards and upwards, at least the new Nissan Pathfinder doesn't have a great deal to beat, I just pity the next owner of my 5, especially when the warrant expires!
Good luck guys, it is a pity our collective didn't really achieve much. Keep up the fight!

Hows the Pathfinder ?
You still about ? Or are you now over at www.MyNissanrunslikeadream.co.uk

I think the Pathfinder might be the next move for us, sooner........or later.......???

2 weeks in with the Pathfinder and things are great, more comfortable, quieter, slightly less mpg (about 38), huge spec, the 5 is now just a bad memory. Also checked out a discovery 3 but it couldn't complete with the Nissan on value. I bought a top spec Aventura, ex Nissan managers car with 10k on the clock and got it for £10k less than list from a main dealer - a great deal.
Thaks for the update, sounds good. We looked at a sport one before buying the Mazda but thought it was maybe a bit too big - how does it comparesizewise to the5 after living with it for 2 weeks.
Cheers,

The mazda is actually a surprisingly long car. Park it next to a Disco and there is nothing in it length-wise, its the height of this type of vehicle which gives the impression of vastness. The Nissan feels good to drive, especially now it is getting wet and miserable here up in the Lakes. The wife, (who had the final say when we bought the Mazda - and yes, I have never let her forget it), took it to Manchester airport today, and enjoyed the drive - so i would say the size is not an issue - I guess the only down side is the slight decrease in fuel economy.
Greetings all, I am really pleased to announce, as one of the first to complain about tyre wear on my Mazda 5 to Mazda. They have come up trumps and sorted out the problem once and for all. I have covered in excess of 5000 miles on my latest set of tyres and they are wearing evenly front and rear.
Hope that you can get your cars sorted quicker than I did...
Seasons Greetings to you all...
Nig

Hi Nig, Merry Christmas,
to save me plodding through all of your posts, could you remind us please, what did they actually do to your car to solve the uneven wear?
Mine seems to be good at the front now, but the rears arestill wearing. Only thing different is Bridgestone tyres on the front. Still Dunlops on the rear.
All the best to all our readers!!,

A Happy New Year to all our readers!!
Just a quick update - quite a promising one for a change.
As previously reported, at 12,800 miles my totally wrecked Dunlops on the front were replaced with Bridgestone tyres. I'm pleased to report that at 26,800 miles (i.e. they have done 14,000 miles)these front tyres are wearing totally evenly across the whole surface, and seem to have several thousand miles left in them.
Meanwhile, the original Dunlops were still on the back, and were now suffering the wear on the inside edges. When the car was in for the 25,000 service I pointed this out, and a 4-wheel alignment was carried out under warranty (which the dealer point blank refused to do when it was the front tyres, I had to pay for it myself). Once again the adjustments that were made were only a few tenths of a degree, nothing major, so I really can't see the alignment being the problem. The Dunlops have been replaced by Bridgestones and hopefully they should last for a lot longer than 25K.
I have a nice print-out of the wheel alignment figures if anyone is interested. I could scan it and post it on here.
Any other news on this topic? It's all gone quiet, either we're all happy or you've all sold your cars!

I would be interested in seeing the new specs.
Did you see how they adjusted the rear camber to bring it back into alignment? Was it the cam-bolt on the lower rear control arms?
Hi,
I was beginning to wonder where everyone was, too.
Our 5 Sport was fitted with Hankook Ventus Xls, on the front, about 3k ago. So far the wear is even on the fronts, but as observed, the backs (still the Dunlops) are wearing on the inner edges though still legal at 14k.
Our mileage has slowed down so much (3k in 5 months) that I didn't think there was enough use to get a worthwhile assessment.
Meanwhile the other problems we are having aren't doing anything positive about our feelings towards the car and MMUK. It is a shame as the car is potentially everything we need and want.
