Done the email. Can't submit comment to road test listed, as Error message received. But that's July 2005.

New to site. In common with many, was unaware of tyre wear issue until my 5s first service at 13k. Now need new rears due to under inflation according to both Crayford Motors and Mazda UK. Same under inflation has left the outer tyre with more than double the tread of the inner...

I had leased the Mazda to give me "fixed price motoring". At £135 a corner a year, it's going to cost me at least an extra £500 over the two year term maybe even double this and I'm not best pleased.

To me, Mazda's stance on this is unbelievable. In these days of liability claims, where would they stand if in the worst case scenario, somebody dies in an accident caused by or contributed to by this problem.

I'm going to fight all the way on this as I feel Mazda is not only wrong, it's downright irresponsible. Any/all help would be appreciated.

David

Hi David, I'm amazed that Mazda and your dealer are denying a problem. I was of the opinion that REAR tyre wear was now anacknowledged fault and that they were able to fix it?

My rears still seem fine, just about to hit 13,000 miles and they still look like new. My front tyres, however, are another story, and I've had the "under-inflated" line fed to me too. They are being replaced on Thursday with Mazda paying 41% as a good-will gesture.

More, as it happens........

Dave.

I've been watching this thread closley and fervently hoping that this problem really doesn't affect those of us with "pauper" models with 16" wheels (we've only got 700 miles on the clock so far).

I do however have a couple of observations.

Why does this only seem to be a problem in the UK - what about the cars in the US

Also, there's a thread on the UK BMW Motorcycle club website at the moment about tyre pressures (the discussion mentions cars as well). There is agreement that the vehicle manufacturers alwaysrecomend lower tyre pressures than the tye makers for the same vehicle. A theory suggests that this is about a ride comfort/tyre life balance. The prevailing view is that tyre pressure are determined by the manufacturer during initial testing with a particular tyre and these are "set" and no further (real) development takes place. The conclusion is to use pressures recomended by the tyre maker not the vehicle maker.

What do the tyre makers say in this case ?

Now im gob smacked dont know what to do if theres an accident due to the tyres where will I stand??? I have children (which is why I went for the mazda 5) getting scared to drive it now!! So will have anew car sat in the drive rusting away

Curious, both the dealer and MMUK are more than willing to accept that there is a problem with the 05 17" sport model I have.
I spoke yesterday with a chap (Tim) from MMUK, who listened to my case and when he pulled up my details on the computer was heard to gasp and say, "It has had a few problems!"
I am awaiting the dealer and MMUK to get in touch with their next move......

I will no doubt be going into the dealership soon, so I will report back with their take on the problem.

As for accepting that there is no problem........ I don't think they would dareeven think it, let alone say it to me....

It's interesting that this seems to bea UK only phenomenon....I know many people with Mazda5's here in the US with no issues at all.
