Tyre wear on UK Mazda5
I'm assuming that no-one has heard anything from Watchdog? I thought I'd add another post to this thread to get it back on Page 1 in order for new victims to see it.
Hi, do you know what brand of tyres you have at the moment? And the previous set? If so, I would suggest you send a quick e-mail to the tyre manufacturer(s) explaining that Mazda are trying to pass the blame onto the brand of tyre. I expect Mazda may listen to the legal departments of Dunlop or whoever.

Put your case to them, and feel free to tell them that you have spoken with me and that they seem to be able to admit the problem to me.
just done it as mazda keep fobbing me off!!!!! saying there is no problem with my model mazda5 sport, and this will be my third set of tyres at under 16k
just been on the phone to mazda about being told that there was no problem with my model (sport) apparently I was given the wrong information by them and yes there is a problem with the 17" .
they are going to get back to me but mentioned that they are going try some different brand of tyres on the car But I am going to refuse to pay for them, its not going to solve the problem mazda need to sort this out they cant keep blaming the tyre manufacturors

Phew, I thought we had taken a huge step back...
I contacted Dunlop Customer services and hopefully the chap is going to phone me tomorrow.
Anyone interested could contact them on 01902 453097.

There are so many different stories coming from Mazda I'm finding it hard to keep up. My local dealer has asked me to opt for replacement tyres (front) and Mazda will contribute, I am loathed to choose Dunlop again on the grounds that if it is a tyre defect or incompatability then I will be doing the same thing again in 8 months time. What tyres has everyone else tried, and have any been more (or less!) successful? I am considering either Michelin Primacy or Hankook Optimo (I have these on my commuting car and get 35000 trouble free miles down to 3 mm of tread). Had a look at some forecourt models today and they're still shod with Dunlops, which would suggest that Mazda are not fully convinced that it is a tyre problem, if they are then they are willfully and knowingly fitting tyres that are not fit for purpose.
Well I have had Bridgestone put on the front of mine today, so I'll let you all know how it goes. Bought a tyre tread depth gauge too !
Mazda paid 41% of cost today, so I'm quite happy as I reckon I had done about 60% of the mileage expected from a set of front tyres (nearly 13,000).
Bridgestone wasthe recommendationby the Mazda dealer in Bolton, however the tyre place they sent me to said they would have recommended Continental, so who knows?!
Dealer wants me to go back in 2000 miles to take some tread readings. I think we all know what the results will be.
More as it happens.....

Had to have two new fronts fitted in mid April at 10kon my 2005 Sport Nav and was told the rears were worn to threads on the inner rim. As the Dunlops are so hard to find I went for Michelins as well.
Contacted my local dealer at Brooklyn Cheltenham and dumped the two rears on them, and had to hear all the excuses that it is my fault, and there areNO known problems. I was told I had fitted the wrong tyres, it should have been Dunlops and I should have moved the tyres from front to back at 5000 miles.
When I insisted that there was a known problem I was told to ring Mazda. This I have done, and today I have been told I have to fill in a form at the dealership for compensation.
From what I am hearing they will offer 80% of rear tyre costs, but the fronts are not included - to which I have redirected them to this forum and also to posts on What Car customer reviews, stating that Mazda are aware of front tyre wear problems.
They seem to be offering veryfew answers to these problems, and only if youcreate a huge fuss will they come up with a result.
I will report back on the offer I receive.
Finally we experienced the accelerator sticking on 7 occassions recently on a cold engine - it seems as if an auto choke has stuck in the on position. Rectified each time by stopping immediately and turning off the engine - has anyone else experienced this at all - or are we the first to develop this new fault.
Car is currently on test at the dealer until next Monday - so far they have found nothing wrong.

Greetings all.
A kind chap fromDunlop phoned me this evening. They are quite rightly not too keen to be seen to saying anything about any particular manufacturer. However, he did say that a tyre will wear according to how the tyre addresses the road. Common sense I suppose. MMUK seem to want us to believe differently.....

As I put the phone down the sevice manager from my dealership called. He said that there was talk of further adjustments of the geometry of the car, and they are awaiting delivery of a new batch of tyres.
I suggested to him that MMUK showed their hand, and contacted all 5 Sport owners to inform them of the state of affairs and what theyare going to do.
I even suggested that they made a definitive statement of intent to sort the problem on this forum....
If this is the big fix MMUK keep going on about, they should draw a line by supplying a set of tyres to each car that has it's geometry reset. Then the whole matter will go away, if the fix works!

Hi Dave, it is the rear end I am refering to.
I had serious wear on my fronts first time round, but this time the wear has been less significant.
The rear end is the worry to me.
It is interesting though, whilst I was speaking to the chap from Dunlop he said that he had just recieved an email from another Mazda 5 owner asking the same question he was answering for me.....
