Stereo help!
Sorry to rekindle an old thread but I just bought a 2012 m5 gt and the stereo is one of the first things I noticed as a shortcoming.
Just asking but has anyone considered adding an amp and upgrading the speakers to improve the sound quality instead of replacing the head unit?

It is very possible to significantly improve the sound in your 5 just by doing the speakers, but only if you get some quality ones. The rule of thumb for car audio: DON'T SKIMP ON SPEAKERS!. A good set of 2-way 5" x 7" speakers in the front doors by Kenwood or Polk (I like Polk, personally) would do the trick, and you may very well not have to add any more amplification.
Cheers!
