Replacement K&N Air Filter for my 2006 Mazda 5?
Hey guys,
Long time Mazda owner here (1985 Rx-7 GS, 2000 Protege ES, and 2006 Mazda 5) with a dumb question for you. I'm trying to find a factory style K&N air filter for my wife's 2006 Mazda 5. I've been able to find a filter for the 2007-2010 models, but for some reason they don't offer a K&N OEM style filter for the 2006 models? I thought they all had the same 2.3L MZR engine? Autozone lists the same part number for their cheapo STP air filters for all models 2006-2010. Am I missing something here?
If I get the K&N air filter for the 2007 model will it work in my wife's 2006? Here is the filter I'm considering...
K&N 33-2293 High-Flow Washable Air Filter - eBay (item 260751624251 end time Apr-12-11 02:36:58 PDT)
Thanks!

Those two years use the same stock filters. Consequently, they will also use the same K&N filter. There used to be a thread on here a while back about aftermarket parts but it doesn't seem to be there anymore. I had posted that you can take the resonator tube off of the filter box and then replace the stock filter with the K&N. Once this is done, it's as if you replaced the intake filter assembly with an entire kit, except a lot cheaper. I've been drivng my M5 like this for a while now and I can tell there's been an increase in both horsepower and fuel economy. Hope this helps.
