Brake pads knocking on 2007 Mazda 5 2.0d Sport
Knocking sound following replacement of rear brake pads and discs. Fitments are correct to best of knowledge. Fitted correctly and securely as confirmed by experienced ATS Euromaster technician.
Any thoughts as to cause and remedy please?
Many thanks.

I had the same issue. It turned out to be corrosion (aluminum oxidation) in the caliper where the guide pins go. The effect was that the caliper compressed and retracted unevenly, leaving a gap that allowed the pads to knock. I removed the pins, used a screwdriver to scrape out the build-up, lubricated everything and reassembled. The knocking went away. Hope this helps.

Old thread, but the rear calipers on many Mazda’s you have to compress and turn the piston to retract it for pad replacement because of the parking brake. Once you’ve finished the job you have to pump the parking brake until it firms up. That ratchets the piston back into the correct default position.
