Winter tires and wheels
Take a look at the clearance between the brake calipers and the inner diameter of the rim. If you have more that 0.75" of clearance now, you should be able to fit the 15's just fine. (I don't really think it's necessary to downsize the rim all that much as I had great results even with the 17's my wife has on her car.)
It does look like there is room. The base has 15's. The GT has 17's, may have larger brake calipers than my midrange GS. It is a GT afterall. I will probably end up with 16's. Although the weather here is warm. The time for decisions is coming up fast.
As always thanks for the advice.

Yes the GT comes with larger front brake rotors than the GX or GS (Canada) and you need at least a 16 inch rim to clear them. Since the GX and GS came with 15 inch standard rims you know they must fit.The standard rim for the GT is 16 inch(205/55 16 tires), the GT with GFX package comes with 17 inch (205/50 17 tires).
My gt came with 17 inch standard(205/50/17)....I askedat dealer if I wanted to go down in size he recommended 205/55/16, then the guy at costco told me that I couldn't go any smaller because the m3 with the 2.3 engine has bigger rotors.
Your tire guy is wrong. You can go down to 16's but only 16's. Nothing smaller will fit.
WhaddoU expect from a guy that works at Costco for cryin' out loud.
