Default Water in passenger floor - does not appear to be usual causes

Hi all - thanks for any thoughts on this.

My daughter has a Mazda 3, and twice now has had a problem with water getting in the passenger floorboards. The circumstances are mysterious, such that I don't think the cause is one of the usual suspects (sunroof, AC drain, cowl drain).

She's had the car almost two years, and it's happened only twice, at least as far as we can tell. (there haven't been any other times where anyone's noticed water, nor has there been any smell).

She's in college, and doesn't drive the car long distances or highway speeds while there. The only times she drives it highway speeds is when coming home (e.g. now for summer). Both time's it's happened has been during these times.

It's parked outside always. Last year when this happened I got into the car when it was raining, and saw no evidence of any leaking. This is why I'm pretty sure it's not the cowling draing or the sun roof drain - if it was it would get wet more often, during rain events.

Similar for the AC drain. That would be a more slow leak, and would happen more often, when she runs the AC. In these cases though it's been about a gallon of water I've pulled out (via shop vac and/or towels).

So what I'm thinking is that the water may actually becoming up from *below* when she drives in the rain at higher speeds, which she did the other day. Like maybe from tire splash. I don't see anything wrong with any of the splash guards or the like - everything looks to be in place, and looks the same on the passenger and the driver side.

Thoughts? Anyone else seen anything like this?
