Default VVT actuator Pin damage?

I figured based on other pics I've seen that this isn't a healthy VVT? (pic attached)

Just wanted to check with others before buying an aftermarket replacement.

Doesn't look good to me, I'd replace it. That timing chain is one stout little bugger, eh?

Very Stout!

I replaced it, but I am now wondering if the VVT camshaft is supposed to have a little play in it? It's not much, I would say 1mm on the outer circumference at the alignment end of the camshaft, or according to SOH-CAH-TOA, that works out to approximately 0.1 degrees of play.

I am guessing its because of the VVT actuator?
