It doesn't reset ALL the electronics. Much is still held in the memory of the ECU, i.e. Maximum RPM, Odometer reading....?
It was only a guess as I am not familiar w/the system. Perhaps there's another controller (ECU, if you will, somewhere since this system was no doubt designed and produced by a vendor, i.e. Bosch, and purchased by Mazda for the car.
