If you have nice stereo equipment, consider an alarm that features a glass-breakage or motion detector, as well as a pager. The Lojack will help get your car back if it is stolen, but won't protect your equipment from being ripped off.
Try to make the equipment virtually invisible to anyone walking by, as a first line of prevention.

Don't show off your stereo (cranked up so everyone can hear it.) If your car is distinctive enough, it won't take much for people ot know exactly what you have. I always crack up at the giant Alpine stickers plastered all over the car. Might as well say "rip me off"

my friend has 2 15"s that cost him a bundle.....he has a ford taurus with Limo tint, and no alarm, and no problems yet, and those suckers are LOUD!! my other friends has 2 12" JL W3's and no alarm....but then again, someone once tried to steal my parents POS '89 4runner once.....me and my dad came back from a raptors game and notcie the window was broken....i guess someone scared them off....just dont park in shady areas and you should be fine....if you park near your house, get a motion sensor light....those things are damn bright!

on another note, whats an FOB??

So an aftermarket alarm wont void a warranty

if u want to look at vehicle history, check out mycarstats.com there's a signup but they don't send any spam that i'm aware of. But you can see how many vehicles have recalls or customer complaints, search by make model and year.

Re: the Mazda 3 being easy to break into, the whole "if you hit the door hard in just the right place, the door opens" is an unproveninternet story I have never seen backedup with confirmation from a reputable authority. My car came with an engine immobilizer, which prevents hotwiring. If you put a hot stereo in the car, that will be a magnet for thieves, no matter what brand of vehicle you buy. An aftermarket anti theft product is probably a wise idea.

Consumer Reports and Edmunds both rate the Mazda 3 as being a strong vehicle. I would recommend you check their assessments.
