Default Thump in the Trunk

I honestly do not even know where to start with this. I am experiencing an intermittent rattle/vibration in the right rear of the car. It only happens at low RPMS, mostly after I have turned a corner and it seems to be more prevalent when I am running the A/C and/or when I am low on on gas and seems to be worse when the car is hot. It kind of sounds like the gas tank is loose or something. These are all just loose correlations, I have not experienced it now for a couple weeks, maybe because I am not using the A/C. I started noticing it after I installed the Vibrant exhaust and it was really annoying all summer. Now, not so much, but not gone either. I have had it to the local guy who does the mechanical work I do not do myself and had it on the lift, but they found nothing loose or otherwise out of the ordinary.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

BTW, I added the pics I promised last summer, but so lamely never got around to, in the photo album.

hi. i had a thump/clank in my right rear (2004 3s wagon) before and it turned out the sway bar was loose.

Hmmm... Now that you mention it, I had the same thing happen to mine! It was such a quick fix that I forgot about it all together.

I had read about folks having a loose sway bar. Will it be obviously loose? I got down and tugged on mine and it seemed tight but that is with a load on it. Haven't had it on a lift where the load was actually removed from the suspension.

It does. It rattles like something is going to fall off. The problem is that it is intermitant. If whatever it is would just break I could fix it.

And risk trashing something else? Preventative Maintenance is the crucial.

Totally agree. I wish I could locate the problem so I could fix it. In fact I noticed it again today, a vibration rattle in the right rear at low RPMs that occurs during acceleration. I just can't figure out what it is.
