The car I'm looking at is a 2008 Mazdaspeed 3 GT. The seller has only had it 3 months, so no real driver history to speak of. The autocheck report has some issues: accident 4/11 with insurance loss title and salvage title or salvage auction record and lien record. The owner says the car had an engine problem that he had fixed and replaced the clutch as well. The car is all stock and well equipped with 64k miles.

I drove it, and it seems fine. Needs some basic maintenance.

I have no mechanical knowledge and I don't want to bite off more than I can chew. Does anyone have thoughts or advice to offer on this particular car, or general guidance for me in my hunt?

 

Steer clear of this car fast. It's worth very little, potentially unsafe, difficult to sell and possibly a sinkhole for money. Somebody is trying to dump it.

The MazdaSpeed 3 is the best ZOOM ZOOM Mazda has.
Don't rush in to buying a car. Try a few out and shop around.
I see you are doing your homework. A car is the 2nd biggest thing you will buy.
