Default Tailights/Interior Dash Lights Not Working

I have a 2004 Mazda 3. I've noticed that the tail lights work periodically. When they don't work the interior dash lights (radio lights, AC/Heat control lights etc.) go out. They work 30% of the time but it seems if I hit a bump in the road they go out. I used to be able to get them to work by opening and slamming the hood but that trick no longer works. It now seems they come on and go out as they please. I've checked the fuse for the tail lights and it seems fine.

Before I take it to my mechanic is there a simple fix that I can do myself? Could it be a bad connection somewhere or is there a relay switch that I need to replace?

Please help. I'm trying to avoid another car fix bill if there is something I can do myself.

I posted then the site went down for routine maintenance, why during the middle of the day I dunno.

Yes check the electrical connections. I'd also suggest disconnect the electrical connectors, use a quick drying electrical cleaner, reinstall connections

Precision cleaner designed to replace. CFC products where lower flashpoint solvents may be used i also think you should use quick drying electrical cleaner

Have you had the PJB (fuse box) disconnected for any reason? Any work done to the car recently? It almost sounds like one of the connectors on the PJB is popping loose, which can be common if the connectors weren't seated properly when reinstalled.

Have you checked all fuses? It's possible something is burned out but is still making an intermittent connection.

I know this is old but did you ever figure this out? I am having the exact same problem... tail lights turning off as well as the interior dash lights and some of the lights in the stereo. Seem to be all on the same circuit. Intermittently.

Thanks!
