Unhappy Starting problem

As brief as possible: 2010 Mazda 3 sport 2.0 litre

Cold starts are fine. Once hot, vehicle turns over but won't start first try. Turn key off then retry. Will start on 2nd or 3rd try sometimes hesitant...

At initial start up it used to engage a pump or something for approx 3 seconds after key turned on. Doesn't anymore. Now, after first try, turn key off & slight soft howl instead of what I initially heard.

... any takers?? I've taken it to my local shop where they ran fuel & electrical testing with no errors or "red flags".

A little Marvins Mystery Oil in the gas each fillup will tell you if the pump is trying to lockup or the one way valve in the pump is sticking. If it does not act up after you add that it is likely the pump due to ethanol in the gas.

Question

Sorry for the delay in replying & thank you both. Kilometers are approx 145k. I don't know what Marvins is but there is probably another product like it on the market which may do the same thing. I will research & see what may be available in my area.

I would get a code check done at your local Mazda Dealer. Im thinking maybe a sensor is on its way out and the heat of a warm/hot engine is messing things up.
